Mr. Roebuckasked the Lord President of the Council whether he will state the reason for his decision that the absence of women members does not make the Jockey Club unrepresentative under Provision No. 4 of the Principles Governing the Grant of Charters, published by his office in November, 1966.
§ Mr. PeartThere are certain activities, such as horse racing, in which, for one reason or another, men are, with notable exceptions, more prominent than women. The present absence of women on the controlling body of this sport simply reflects this fact: it does not make that body unrepresentative.
The Charter and Rules of the Jockey Club do not prohibit the proposal or the election of women members.
