HC Deb 25 March 1970 vol 798 c424W
Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the maximum house improvement grant in 1964 and in 1970; and, taking into account the fall in value of money and the increase in house building and repair costs since 1964, what estimate he has made of the value in real terms of the level of grant in 1970 compared with the level of grant in 1964.

Mr. Ross

The maximum amount of improvement grants was increased from £400 to £500 from 16th August, 1964 and to £1,200 from 25th August, 1969. The recent increase is far in excess of the increase in the level of building costs.
