HC Deb 24 March 1970 vol 798 cc325-6W
55. Dame Irene Ward

asked the Minister of Transport what grants will be made to the passenger transport authorities to enable them to implement the Travel Concessions Act without imposing a charge on the ratepayers.

Mr. Bob Brown

Under the Transport Act, 1968, Passenger Transport Executives, with the approval of their Passenger Transport Authorities where appropriate, are free to provide travel concessions on their services themselves, or by arrangement with local authorities at the local authorities' expense. This is a matter for local decision and there is no provision for a Government grant for this purpose.
