HC Deb 24 March 1970 vol 798 c385W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) if he will make a further statement on the up-to-date position regarding the negotiations for Scottish teachers' salaries;

(2) if he will now take steps to ensure that teachers' salaries in Scotland are equal to those in England.

Mr. Ross

Negotiations were continued at a meeting of the Scottish Teachers Salaries Committee on 20th March. I understand that the Teachers' Side then indicated that they wished to go back to their associations for fresh instructions, and that a further meeting of the Committee will be arranged after this has been done.

Under the offer already made by the Management Side the average day school salary on 1st April would be higher in Scotland than in England and Wales.
