HL Deb 24 March 1970 vol 308 cc1401-2WA
LORD FERRIER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

To what extent they are drawing upon the experience of the Government of India in respect of the investigations into the present rabies scare and whether the Haffkine Institute in Bombay is contributing to the documentation or personnel of the proposed Committee of Inquiry.

LORD BESWICK

Her Majesty's Government has access to information on animal health matters and on the zoonoses through the relevant international organisations. It draws upon experience with rabies in India and else- where in its investigations into outbreaks of the disease in this country to the extent that environmental differences make this possible. The independent Committee of Inquiry into Rabies being set up by my right honourable friend will be free to decide from whom it will seek evidence.

I will see that the attention of the Chairman, Mr. Ronald Waterhouse, Q.C., is drawn to the noble Lord's Question.
