HC Deb 24 March 1970 vol 798 c358W
106. Sir T. Beamish

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the percentage rate of growth, at an annual rate, in a compromise estimate of gross domestic product between 1959 and 1964, and between 1964 and 1969, using whatever figures are available for 1969.

Mr. William Rodgers

The annual rate of growth of gross domestic product, taking the average of the expenditure, output and income measures, was 3.8 per cent. between 1959 and 1964 and is estimated to have been about 2.1 per cent. between 1964 and 1969. These figures are associated with changes in the pressure of demand which was higher in 1964 than 1959 and lower in 1969 than 1964. There was also a sharp reduction, between the two periods, in the upward trend of the working population.
