asked the Minister of Transport what reply he has received from British Railways to his communication conveying the views of hon. Members on the maintenance of the East Coast railway links from Newcastle to Edinburgh and London.

Mr. Mulley

The Railways Board has told me that it has no intention at the present time of reducing the East Coast services after the electrification of the West Coast Line to Glasgow: indeed, it expects that traffic on the East Coast route will increase as the services are progressively improved.
