HC Deb 24 March 1970 vol 798 c370W
Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much money was borrowed by the Central Government in 1969 at rates of interest of 9 per cent. or over; and how much money has been borrowed at such rates of interest by the Central Government before 1969.

Mr. Taverne

£766 million in 1969; none in any recent previous year, since rates of interest in London and other international centres have not previously been as high.
