HC Deb 23 March 1970 vol 798 c298W
Mr. Speed

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the effects of devaluation and changes in taxation on the index of retail prices between the third quarter of 1964 and the third quarter of 1969.

Mr. Taverne

I estimate that, over the period specified, devaluation added rather less than 3 per cent. to the index and changes in indirect taxation more than 7 per cent.
