49. Mr. Ashton

asked the Minister of Technology whether he is aware that the Ford Motor Company has now withdrawn its intention to build plants in Yorkshire and Lanarkshire and now proposes to build them in Saarlouis and Cologne; and if he will request the Industrial Reorganisation Corporation to assist the development of the company in the United Kingdom so that these plants will not go overseas.

I have received no information to suggest that such plants were in prospect.
