HC Deb 23 March 1970 vol 798 cc266-7W
83. Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he has now received from the French Government the same assurances that were given to him by the other five European Economic Community Governments at the last meeting of the Western European Union Council at Ministerial level.

Mr. Luard

All six Governments have agreed that their preliminary discussions on political unification should be in the perspective of the enlargement of the Communities. As I told the right hon. Member for Bridlington (Mr. Wood) on 13th February, we are confident that they will take into account in these discussions our keen interest in playing a full and equal part in the development of European political unity.—[Vol. 795, c. 443–4.]
