§ Mr. RossInformation about the number of children ascertained each year as requiring special education is not collected centrally. In January, 1968, 7,532 educable mentally handicapped pupils were attending special schools and classes and the corresponding figure in January, 1969, was 7,624. Figures for January, 1970, are not yet available.
