HC Deb 23 March 1970 vol 798 c313W
Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many children living in Scotland were shown to be educationally sub-normal during 1968; and what is the number at the latest convenient date.

Mr. Ross

Information about the number of children ascertained each year as requiring special education is not collected centrally. In January, 1968, 7,532 educable mentally handicapped pupils were attending special schools and classes and the corresponding figure in January, 1969, was 7,624. Figures for January, 1970, are not yet available.
