asked the Minister of Technology if he will state the number of pits closed since October 1964 and the number of mineworkers employed at that date and those employed at present, respectively.

Since the end of October 1964 258 collieries have been closed or merged. The number employed in October 1964 was some 488,800; it is now 296,700.
