Mr. Julius Silverman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many social workers qualified to deal with mental cases operate in the City of Birmingham; how many work for the local authority; and how many are attached to local hospitals.

At 30th September, 1969, there were in the National Health Service in Birmingham the whole-time equivalent of about 9 such social workers employed by the local authority and about 10 by the hospital service.

There are no social workers so qualified in the National Health Service in Barrow-in-Furness.
