Mr. Brooks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will obtain a report from the chief constable as to how many police are currently employed by the Cheshire Police Authority; how many of these are employed for the protection of the Birkenhead, Bromborough and Eastham docks systems, respectively; and what administrative arrangements exists for liaison between these dock police and other police employed by the Port of Manchester Authority.

On 28th February the strength of the Cheshire Constabulary was 2,449, compared with 2,084 at the end of 1964, and of its Birkenhead Docks sub-division 54. The Bromborough and Eastham docks are policed by the Manchester Ship Canal police, whom the Cheshire Constabulary assist as required. The forces are in regular contact, and no formal arrangement for liaison has been made or is necessary.
