§ Mr. Edward ShortThis information is not available. Applications for free meals are made by parents either on their own initiative or on advice which may come from a variety of sources. My predecessor issued a general reminder to parents through the schools in the autumn of 1967 and I have under consideration the circulation of a further leaflet in the near future. It has been estimated that the proportion of children eligible for free meals who receive them has risen from about half in 1967 to more than three-quarters in 1969.
