HC Deb 18 March 1970 vol 798 c157W
Mr. Rankin

asked the Minister of Technology if he will make a statement on the reasons for dismissing 3,000 men from Upper Clyde Shipbuilders over the next few months.

Dr. Ernest A. Davies

I understand that redundancies in this company will result from the completion of certain sophisticated ships and the reorganisation of work for building the simple ships on which it is now concentrating. This redundancy was in part foreseen last June when my right hon. Friend informed the Select Committee on Scottish Affairs that there would be a redundancy of 2,600 by August this year.
