HC Deb 18 March 1970 vol 798 c146W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Lord President of the Council how many official-paid envelopes have been used by hon. Members in each month since the inception of the scheme; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that such envelopes are being used for sending of circular letters to all new young voters; and if he will take steps to stop the issue of envelopes for this purpose.

Mr. Peart

The number of official-paid envelopes issued from the Serjeant at Arms' stores, including deliveries to letter racks, during the relevant months, are as follows:

October (6th–31st) 307,375
November 160,375
December 144,900
January 172,225
February 112,400
March (lst–12th) 50,225

I am aware of the use of these facilities by some Members for circular letters. I am sending a letter to all Members on this matter, which I hope they will receive tomorrow.
