HC Deb 17 March 1970 vol 798 cc114-5W
Mr. Gurden

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to provide that young persons of 18 years of age shall be subject to magistrates' orders for the supervision of an officer of the court until fines are paid.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

A magistrates' court already has power under Section 71 of the Magistrates' Courts Act 1952 to place an offender under supervision until his fine has been paid. It is for the courts to decide what use to make of this provision.
