HC Deb 17 March 1970 vol 798 cc79-80W
33. Mr. Kenneth Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many temporary staff are employed in his Department and in the Inland Revenue department; how many of these are secured from employment agencies; and what is the increased cost to his Department over and above the cost of normal establishment rates of pay.

Mr. Taverne

In the Treasury, 20 staff are employed on a casual short-term basis, all from employment agencies. The extra cost is estimated at £550 per annum.

1,076 staff are employed in the Inland Revenue on a casual short-term basis, of whom 145 are employed part-time only. None is secured from employment agencies. There is no cost to the Department above the cost of normal establishment rates of pay.
