HC Deb 17 March 1970 vol 798 c92W
62. Mr. Blackburn

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government when he expects to receive the desk study of the Wash Barrage; and what progress is being made in the consideration of the barrage proposals for Morecambe Bay and the Dee.

Mr. Greenwood

I hope to receive the Water Resources Board's report on the Wash desk study this summer. Its full feasibility of the Morecambe Bay barrage scheme will be completed about the beginning of 1971 and I expect its assessment of it later in that year.

Preliminary engineering studies, completed in 1967, showed that a multi-purpose Dee crossing project was feasible. Further studies are in progress to establish the best place for a crossing and to determine its likely effect on both sides of the estuary. These should be completed early next year and this spring, respectively.
