asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what estimate he has made of the current value of the funds of all private sector occupational pension schemes, other than schemes providing benefits for the self-employed, approved for tax purposes.

I am informed by the Government Actuary that the current figure is probably of the order of £7,000 million.
