HC Deb 16 March 1970 vol 798 c72W
Mr. Longden

asked the Minister of Transport what administrative arrangements he makes for compensating a house owner who is unable to sell his property because a projected motorway is proposed to pass within a short distance of it; and on what authority compensation is subsequently made to such an owner.

Mr. Bob Brown

There is no statutory authority to compensate the owners of properties affected in this way if the properties are not be to be acquired eventually for the proposed road. The problem is an aspect of injurious affection, on which I would refer the hon. Member to what my hon. Friend the Minister of State for Housing and Local Government said on Friday 27th February in his speech on the Second Reading of the Planning Blight and Worsenment Bill.—[Vol. 796, c. 1541–1638.]
