HC Deb 16 March 1970 vol 798 c18W
97. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take steps to end the danger to consumers of frozen chicken, of salmonella infection, by requiring that a warning as to length of time required for thawing out or for cooking is clearly given.

Dr. John Dunwoody

Chicken is a safe food provided it is cooked and handled properly; comparatively few cases of food poisoning are associated with poultry. Some firms give advice about thawing and cooking on their labels, and in co-operation with the trade we have initiated studies to establish whether specific guidance to users can be recommended for general adoption by the trade.
