107. Mr. Temple

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food with what countries in the last four years his Department has been in consultation regarding the use of inactivated foot-and-mouth vaccine.

Mr. Mackie

None. Our veterinary officers have frequent discussions with their colleagues overseas on many aspects of animal disease control, but no talks have been initiated on this specific subject.

108. Mr. Temple

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheres and Food for what length of time he estimates immunity from foot-and-mouth disease will be obtained by the use of inactivated foot-and-mouth vaccine in the case of cattle, sheep and pigs.

Mr. Mackie

The estimated average duration of immunity from foot-and-mouth disease using inactivated vaccine is four months for cattle and sheep and four weeks for pigs.

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what experiments his department has carried out either on its own or in conjunction with other Departments with inactivated foot-and-mouth vaccine on animals other than cattle, sheep and pigs.

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, whether the strength or dosage of foot-and-mouth inactivated vaccine prescribed by his Department will vary with the weight or age of the stock vaccinated.
