HC Deb 16 March 1970 vol 798 c31W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied there are sufficient dentists in the City of Carlisle to meet the needs of the present day; how their numbers compare with the average for England and Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. John Dunwoody

At 30th September, 1969, 21 general dental practitioners were practising in Carlisle, a dentist/population ratio of 1:3,385 which compares favourably with a national average for England and Wales of 1:4,557. We are studying the Report of the Government Social Survey on "Adult Dental Health in England and Wales in 1968"—a copy of which has been placed in the Library of the House—which will give valuable help in the future planning of the general dental services.
