asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many persons were prosecuted during each of the last three years for attempting to bring dangerous drugs into this country; and what was the total weight of such drugs confiscated by Customs.

The numbers of persons prosecuted in connection with the irregular importation of drugs contrary to the Dangerous Drugs Act 1965 during the years 1967, 1968 and 1969 were 58, 102 and 184 respectively. The total weights of such drugs confiscated were approximately 434 lb., 2,196 lb. and 807 lb.
