HC Deb 13 March 1970 vol 797 c402W
Mr. Barnett

asked the Minister of Technology if he will make a further stat-ment on the independent inquiry he is proposing to set up into North Sea Gas conversions.

Mr. Harold Lever

Professor Frank Morton, O.B.E., of Manchester University has accepted my invitation to undertake this inquiry. Professor Morton is Professor of Chemical Engineering and a Pro-Vice-Chancellor of that University.

His terms of reference are to inquire into the safety of natural gas as a fuel, and to report.

Professor Morton will have an entirely free hand in conducting the inquiry. He will be able to seek such expert advice as he may think desirable and obtain information from whatever sources he thinks appropriate. I have asked him to report as soon as possible consistently with making a thorough investigation.
