HC Deb 12 March 1970 vol 797 c356W
38. Mr. Allason

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what were the figures for fireworks accidents in 1969; and what changes these show on the corresponding figures for 1962.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

1,636 persons received hospital treatment in England and Wales for injuries caused by fireworks during the period 13th October to 9th November, 1969. 240 of these were severely injured. The corresponding figures for 1962 were 2,832 and 988.

Mr. James Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when it is his intention to meet those organisations interested in the reduction of accidents occurring in the use of fireworks; and whether he will make a statement.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Bedfordshire, South (Mr. Gwilym Roberts), earlier today.
