HC Deb 12 March 1970 vol 797 c374W
76. Mr. A. Royle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will now consider taking action under Section 18(1) of the Civil Aviation Act 1949, in view of the increase of smoke pollution from aircraft flying down the glide slope into London Airport, Heathrow, to prevent danger to public health from aircraft arriving at such aerodromes.

Mr. Crossman

No. This Section stems from Section 143 of the Public Health Act, 1936, which empowers me to make regulations for preventing the spread of certain diseases. Smoke pollution from aircraft is a matter for my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade, who has this subject under consideration.
