HC Deb 12 March 1970 vol 797 cc375-6W
Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

asked the Minister of Technology how many jobs have now been provided by the advance factory programme in Scotland; and what percentage this represents of jobs provided.

Mr. Carmichael

Of the 67 completed Ministry of Technology advance factories in Scotland, 58 have been allocated and 53 are in production. Employment at present provided in these factories totals about 8,400 (3,450 men: 4,950 women). Many of the factories still have to recruit all the labour they will require. As to the second part of the Question, I will attempt to provide the information if the hon. Member will let me know in more detail what he has in mind.

Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

asked the Minister of Technology how many advance factories have been allocated in Scotland to the latest convenient date; how many are now in production; and what percentage this allocation represents of the whole advance factory programme.

Mr. Carmichael

From March, 1959 to February, 1970, 79 Ministry of Technology advance factories have been authorised in Scotland. 67 have been completed, of which 58 have been allocated and, of these, 53 are in production. In terms of factory space, authorisations in Scotland represent about 36 per cent. of the advance factory programmes as a whole.
