HC Deb 11 March 1970 vol 797 c346W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Minister of Transport whether any further negotiations have taken place with the French authorities about the quota of journeys British lorries can make to or through France and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mulley

Yes. As a result of Franco-British discussions on 26th and 27th February, the quota for the 12 months from 1st February has been increased from 7,000 journeys to 15,000 journeys. The additional quota for road-rail "piggy back" transport of 1,000 journeys is retained, and journeys using the "piggy-back" service from French seaports to Italy will be quota-free and will require no permits. In addition, permits will be issued without limit for journeys which do not exceed 25 kilometres—16 miles—from the port of disembarkation. The journey between Dunkirk and the Belgian frontier falls within this limit.
