HC Deb 11 March 1970 vol 797 cc341-2W
Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for Local Government and Regional Planning if he will make a statement on the discussions his Department has had with local authorities in Cornwall about local government reorganisation.

Mr. Crosland

Many authorities in Cornwall commented on the new struc- ture proposed in the Redcliffe-Maud report. In general, they advocated retaining a two-tier structure. The Government's conclusions on the need for a change, and their reasons, have been explained in the recent White Paper and in Parliament. Several authorities in Cornwall also put forward points about boundaries, on which, as we have said, we shall now be having consultations with local authorities generally.

Mr. Pardoe

asked the Minister of Technology if he will publish a White Paper on the Cornish economy.

Mr. Urwin

I have been asked to reply.

The Government have no plans for such a White Paper.
