HC Deb 10 March 1970 vol 797 c276W
51. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what action has been taken, and notified to him, by the Countryside Commission and by the Yorkshire Dales West Riding Planning Committee about the afforestation of Upper Langstrothdale.

Mr. Greenwood

The recent decision of the Northern Pennines Rural Development Board to grant a licence for afforestation proposals at Langstrothdale was opposed by the Yorkshire Dales West Riding Planning Committee. The Countryside Commission decided not to oppose the proposals provided that the board imposed certain conditions designed to protect amenity. Representatives of the committee and of the commission are having discussions with the board with a view to improving the general arrangements for dealing with afforestation proposals. The committee has made representations to me, and I am consulting my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food about procedure.
