HC Deb 09 March 1970 vol 797 c224W
79. Mr. Ian Lloyd

asked the Minister of Technology what methods are now employed to dispose of radioactive strontium 90 nuclear waste produced by commercial or military nuclear production within the United Kingdom.

Dr. Ernest A. Davies

Most of the strontium 90 which becomes radioactive waste is stored. Low active waste containing very small quantities of strontium 90 is disposed of under appropriate authorisations from the Ministries concerned. Authorisations are given only when Ministers are satisfied that most stringent precautions have been taken to ensure that there will be no injury to people or amenity.
