The estimate for 1969 is unpublished and provisional. The figures comprise expenditure on new building work and all expenditure (new and secondhand) on plant, machinery and vehicles less receipts from sales of the assets. † Employees in employment are estimated at mid-June each year, as published in Table 15, of "Monthly Digest of Statistics", January, 1970 (the 1969 figure is provisional): Estimates are not available on a comparable basis over the whole period because of corrections to the industrial classification of many establishments between June, 1966 and June, 1967; in consequence, two sets of estimates are given for 1966 (a) excluding the effects of reclassification for comparison with 1964 and 1965 and (b) including the effect of reclassification for comparison with 1967, 1968 and 1969.
