HC Deb 09 March 1970 vol 797 c259W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food why no consultations have taken place with the National Association of Creamery Proprietors and Wholesale Dairymen in respect of the proposals to adopt a system of metric weights for commodities which will include dairy products; and what proposals he has to remedy this omission.

Mr. Hoy

The Department is already in touch with the National Association of Creamery Proprietors and Wholesale Dairymen on matters affecting the general interests of the milk and dairy products trade. Consultations under the weights and measures legislation on the changeover to the metric system are a matter for the Board of Trade, and my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade announced last December that he and the Metrication Board were ready to discuss metrication programmes with the manufacturers and packers of any goods affected.
