asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will increase the grant to enable the University Grants Committee to improve library facilities.

The recurrent grant for the next quinquennium starting in 1972 has still to be fixed. For the present quinquennium the U.G.C. have made grant allocations which provide for an increase of about 20 per cent. in library expenditure per full-time student and they have also allocated £14 million for new library accommodation in building programmes between 1964 and 1971–72.
