HC Deb 05 March 1970 vol 797 c149W
Mr. Brooks

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will take steps to encourage the integration of denominational and nondenominational schools within a comprehensive secondary school structure.

Miss Bacon

No. It is usual for local education authorities and the authorities for voluntary denominational schools to work closely together in the formulation of reorganisation plans. But it would not be possible for a denominational and a nondenominational school to be integrated in any sense which does not imply the disappearance of one in favour of the other.

Mr. Brooks

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will carry out an investigation into the social consequences of segregating adolescent children in denominational arid nondenominational schools.

Miss Bacon

No. There is no question of the Government contemplating arty significant change in the dual system in England and Wales as provided for in the Education Acts.
