asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many Servicemen remained on the waiting list for discharge from the three Services at the end of 1968 and 1969, respectively.

The numbers of Servicemen who remained on the waiting list for discharge by purchase at the end of 1968 and 1969 were:

Royal Navy/Royal Marines 83 582
Royal Air Force 128 389
There is no waiting list in the Army but the procedure permits a steady flow of discharges by purchase.
