HC Deb 03 March 1970 vol 797 c84W
103. Mr. Rossi

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his latest estimate of the number of homeless families in Great Britain.

Mr. Crossman

If "homelessness" is used in a sense synonymous with "deprival of adequate housing", there is no objective test by which the number of "homeless" can be precisely assessed. The only figures available to me and my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Wales are of families in temporary accommodation. We estimate that these numbered about 4,300 on 31st December, 1969.
