§ 70. Mr. Kenneth Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many temporary staff and agencies' nurses are employed in the London teaching hospitals; how many of these are secured from employment agencies; and what is the increased cost to the hospital service over and above the cost of normal establishment rates of pay.
§ Dr. John DunwoodyAbout 1,060 agency nurses and midwives were in employment at the end of 1969; the total extra cost is not known but such information as is available suggests that it is not great. I regret that information about other temporary staff is not available.
