HC Deb 02 March 1970 vol 797 c12W
70. Mr. Kenneth Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many temporary staff and agencies' nurses are employed in the London teaching hospitals; how many of these are secured from employment agencies; and what is the increased cost to the hospital service over and above the cost of normal establishment rates of pay.

Dr. John Dunwoody

About 1,060 agency nurses and midwives were in employment at the end of 1969; the total extra cost is not known but such information as is available suggests that it is not great. I regret that information about other temporary staff is not available.
