HC Deb 02 March 1970 vol 797 c50W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Minister of Transport what minimum casualty figures are used as criteria before decisions are reached on casualty and accident centres adjacent to motorways.

Mr. Crossman

I have been asked to reply. The siting of major accident and emergency units does not depend on the use of minimum figures of casualties from any one source. Regional hospital boards are responsible, in consultation with boards of governors, for planning the accident and emergency services in their regions and the incidence of accidents on motorways is only one of the factors taken into account by them in deciding the location of major accident and emergency units, which are normally an integral part of general hospitals.
