HC Deb 02 March 1970 vol 797 c2W
39. Mr. Judd

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what consultations he has had with representatives of Lesotho at present in the United Kingdom; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. M. Stewart

None. Apart from a meeting which the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State had with the High Commissioner on his personal position, the only contacts with the High Commission have been at the official level for the conduct of day-to-day business of a non-inter-Governmental nature.

42. Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will grant the request of the Secretary-General of the Basutoland Congress Party for a meeting to discuss British policy towards Lesotho.

Mr. M. Stewart

No. Representatives of the Basutoland Congress Party have been seen by officials of my Department and I am aware of their views. In view of the present situation in Lesotho, I do not consider it appropriate to hold more formal consultations with them.
