HC Deb 02 March 1970 vol 797 c46W
Sir W. Bromley-Davenport

asked the Minister of Transport what is the number of his enforcement staff for the purposes of enforcing the various regulations dealing with goods vehicles drivers' records; and what steps are being taken to inform police authorities that he does not propose to enforce the new regulations dealing with these records until 1st June although they are enforceable as from 1st March.

Mr. Mulley

238 Ministry traffic examiners are engaged full-time in enforcement of the drivers' hours rules and certain other provisions of the Transport Act, 1968. Chief Officers of Police are being informed of the way my examiners will be dealing with enforcement after 1st March.

Sir W. Bromley-Davenport

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will instruct his officers not to take action to enforce the Goods Vehicles (Drivers Records) Regulations 1970 until 1st June, 1970.

Mr. Mulley

No. But as I told the hon. and gallant Member on 13th and 23rd February, I intend to regard the three months after 1st March as a transitional period during which my enforcement staff will be concentrating their efforts on bringing the new rules to the attention of employers and drivers.—[Vol. 795, c. 443; Vol. 796, c. 266–267.]
