HC Deb 02 March 1970 vol 797 c6W
61. Mr. Godman Irvine

asked the Sec retary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about future constitutional progress in Fiji.

Mr. Foley

On 25th February the Legislative Council of Fiji adopted a motion approving the report of discussions held during my right hon. and noble Friend Lord Shepherd's visit to Fiji last January. A Constitutional Conference is to be held in London from 20th April. Lord Shepherd's report shows that agreement was reached by all parties that Fiji should become an independent state with The Queen as Head of State. A copy of the report has been placed in the Library of the House.
