§ Mr. John Pageasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the total annual amount paid in university fees by United Kingdom-based parents in this country on students at British universities; and what is the total of fees paid annually for students in respect of grants from local authorities.
§ Mr. van StraubenzeeMy last estimate is that home students at undergraduate level in British universities are paying in university and college fees—including union dues—about £18 million, of which about £3 million are paid by parents, the remainder mainly by local authorities.
