HC Deb 24 July 1970 vol 804 c245W
Mr. John Page

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the total annual amount paid in university fees by United Kingdom-based parents in this country on students at British universities; and what is the total of fees paid annually for students in respect of grants from local authorities.

Mr. van Straubenzee

My last estimate is that home students at undergraduate level in British universities are paying in university and college fees—including union dues—about £18 million, of which about £3 million are paid by parents, the remainder mainly by local authorities.
