HC Deb 24 July 1970 vol 804 c272W
Mr. Gourlay

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, in view of the financial hardship caused to parents by the increase in school bus fares and the reduction of the age at which pupils can travel on school buses at children's fares, he will seek to amend the Education (Scotland) Act to enable education authorities to provide more free travel for pupils attending school; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

No. I have received no representations from education authorities that such legislation is desirable. Authorities already have discretion under the Act to provide free transport beyond the statutory requirements if they so wish.
