HC Deb 24 July 1970 vol 804 cc259-60W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many hours in each 24 hours on average a prisoner in Her Majesty's Prisons spends locked in his cell.

Mr. Carlisle

My right hon. Friend regrets that this information is not available. The time which prisoners have to spend locked in cells varies according to

the type of establishment, between establishments of the same type, and even within establishments.
