HC Deb 24 July 1970 vol 804 c257W
Mr. Arthur Jones

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many local government officers of all grades are employed in Great Britain; and what this represents as a percentage of total number of persons in employment.

Mr. Dudley Smith

I have been asked to reply.

At June, 1969, there were 2,344,283 persons employed by local authorities or in police forces in Great Britain. They represented 10.4 per cent. of all employees in employment.
